Disc problems – prevent rather than operate

In Germany, doctors often quickly resort to surgery for disc problems – frequently with complex operations where not only damaged disc parts but also parts of healthy vertebrae are removed. This can relieve pain temporarily but does not address the real cause: fluid loss in the discs due to weak deep muscles. Our motto: prevent rather than operate.

What happens during disc surgery?

During surgery, part of the affected disc tissue is usually removed to relieve a pinched nerve. Surgeons sometimes even shave off healthy bone material. Many patients report noticeable improvement immediately after the procedure – but the underlying cause often remains.

Important facts about surgery:

  • Studies show a recurrence rate of up to 20% within the first year – depending on the surgical method and patient profile.

  • With each additional surgery, spinal stability noticeably decreases. From the third procedure onward, fusion is often necessary – which not only limits mobility but can also permanently damage the spine.

  • About 17% of patients experience another disc herniation in less than a year. In 1.2% of cases, another surgery is necessary due to complications.

  • Long-term studies over ten years show: up to 60% of patients are dissatisfied with the results despite multiple surgeries.

  • Surgery can provide short-term relief – but often after two to three years, another procedure is needed, where spinal tissue must be removed again.

The real cause: weakened deep muscles

Our discs rely on good blood circulation and nutrient supply – which mostly happens through movement. Strong deep muscles ensure that the discs are supplied with enough fluid and retain their function as "shock absorbers" in the back.

In many affected individuals, this exact muscle group is underdeveloped. The result: the discs dry out, lose height – and press on the surrounding nerves. The pain that arises is often only temporarily relieved by surgery.

EMS training as an alternative to surgery

The innovative EMS training program “Intervertebral Discs” from eaglefit addresses exactly this: It specifically strengthens the deeper muscle layers – gently, effectively, and without overload.

The benefits at a glance:

  • Can be used preventively or as a complementary measure for existing back issues
  • Promotes core stability and can help relieve the spine
  • Supports making movement safer and less painful again
  • EMS training can provide a long-term and lasting solution

New now in our app:
In our eaglefit app, you will now find a specially developed training program for the intervertebral discs – accessible directly in the app. The program is specifically designed with the required impulse depth and frequency to activate the deep muscles and relieve the spine. This is a supportive measure for strengthening and prevention.

If you are already using an EMS device from eaglefit, The new intervertebral disc program is immediately available to you for free, After updating your app – start your training now for a strong and healthy back.

Expert opinion: “Surgery is not the only solution”

The renowned spine specialist Dr. Florian Alfen warns against rushing into surgical procedures. In his practice, he was able to achieve a surgery avoidance rate of up to 80% with conservative measures such as targeted muscle activation.

“Targeted strengthening of the deep muscles is the key to lasting pain relief – not the scalpel.”
– Dr. Florian Alfen, Spine Surgeon
