Relief from back pain

Back pain is a widespread problem these days. One in three adults suffers from constant or frequent back and neck pain. In addition to the daily limitations, back pain can sometimes even lead to incapacity to work. But there are effective ways to relieve the pain!

We explain below why functional EMS training is one of these and how this can be scientifically justified. A very suitable training method for functional training, which can also be combined very well with EMS training, is training with a sling trainer .

How does EMS training work?

Electrical stimulation of the muscles has a decisive advantage over conventional physiotherapy measures or classic strength training.

Back pain doesn’t have to be!

Strength training in the gym doesn't train the deeper muscles very effectively, even though they play an important supporting role in the skeletal muscles. Even though traditional strength training strengthens the back, it doesn't reach the supporting muscles – or only to a limited extent.

EMS training allows you to specifically train the deep muscles: Muscles in the body are activated by electrical impulses from the central nervous system. It's difficult or impossible to intentionally activate the deeper muscles through normal exercises. Because EMS training mimics these electrical impulses—without complex exercises—the crucial muscles can be specifically activated externally.

Researchers at the University of Bayreuth discovered this in a study in 2003. According to their findings , 82% of participants (102 women, 32 men) were able to alleviate their back pain through a six-week EMS training program . A subsequent meta-analysis confirmed these results ( more information ).

Relief of the spine and intervertebral discs

Another benefit of EMS training is the relief of pressure on the spine and intervertebral discs . The spine is a sensitive structure that should be surrounded by the strongest possible muscle structure. If you have strong postural muscles, shocks to the spine can be better absorbed, and the overall posture of your upper body improves.

Years of sitting cause the muscles around your spine to atrophy, often leading to disc problems. This impairs nerves and causes typical back pain.

Regular EMS training strengthens the muscle belt around the spine, improves posture (upper body alignment), and thus reduces wear and tear on the intervertebral discs. Back pain is no longer a possibility!

In addition to the physiological effects, EMS training also has a positive psychological impact. In the aforementioned study, participants were surveyed about their general mental well-being immediately after the sessions and after the entire six-week training program. The majority of participants reported that EMS training made them feel better and that their stress levels were reduced immediately after the sessions.

Since stress is one of the main causes of back pain, you shouldn't neglect physical exercise, especially during stressful times. EMS training is particularly suitable for this, as the described effects can be achieved with just 20 minutes per week.

That's why we recommend you take the time to do something good for your back and your overall well-being! We support you in your training with:
